Mindful Eating: How to Stop Eating on Autopilot

Most of us eat without thinking. Mindfulness can change your relationship with food.

What is Mindful Eating?

Mindful eating is the practice of bringing full attention to the experience of eating — the taste, texture, smell, and how your body feels. Research shows it reduces binge eating, emotional eating and overall calorie intake.

5 Mindful Eating Practices

  1. Eat without screens — No phone, TV or laptop during meals
  2. Chew slowly — Aim for 20-30 chews per bite
  3. Use smaller plates — Visual portion control without deprivation
  4. Check hunger levels — Rate 1-10 before and halfway through eating
  5. Pause mid-meal — Put your fork down between bites

The 20-Minute Rule

Your brain takes 20 minutes to register fullness. Slow down your eating pace and you'll naturally eat less without feeling deprived.
